Theo Red

Winner of Best Alternative Song Award Malibu Music Awards 2008.

Theo Red have scooped the “Best Song” award at the Malibu Music Awards in Los Angeles this week for their debut single, “This is not an Emergency”

The song, written by Theo (Terry Quinlan) and produced by Peter Eades, was awarded top spot in the rock category and is the first single from the band’s debut album, “Get What You Came For”, released earlier in the summer. The band received confirmation of the result late last Friday night. (July 18th)

The group was awarded the honour by a panel of L.A. industry professionals including Terence Davis (CEO of Great Music Inc, CA) Jenna Voorhees (Universal Music Publishing, L.A.), Jenna Leigh (Circle of Songs), Carolyn Fox (KHZ Radio), and Chris Henry (gold and platinum selling U.S. producer). MMA honors the achievements of famous entertainers, songwriters and publishers, as well as new and emerging artists.

Giving the song high praise, Terence Davis of Great Music Inc, said that both the song and the band has “huge international potential” and has invited them to Malibu, CA to perform at the Malibu Music Festival in May 2009. He has also offered the band use of his Malibu recording studio and its producers for future projects. This U.S. award is unprecedented for an unsigned Irish act and Theo has said that the band is “obviously delighted” and that “band policy has always been to accept any invitations to record in sunny, plush or expensive locations….”

This news follows similar praise closer to home from prestigious Irish DJ, Dave Fanning, who earlier this week described the debut release as a “perfect album…” and one that “should be heard on every music station, day OR night”. Dave has given the album extensive airplay on his show.

Theo Red is: Theo (Terry Quinlan, vocals and guitar), Peter Eades (Bass) and Brian O Reilly (Drums). The album is available now from iTunes (UK, Ireland and U.S. stores) and Tower Records, Dublin. Or from www.theo.ie
